With the January 20th inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America, many people around the world have begun to feel a glimmer of hope. For the past several years, the United States economy has been in a downward spiral leaving people feeling desolate and frightened about what the future will hold.
President Obama has his work cut out for him as he tries to restore hope to the millions of people who have felt the burden of the recent housing crisis, as well as those who are fighting to hold jobs as consumer confidence wanes, and the American dollar continues to weaken. Just last week, the United States saw unemployment rates rise to the highest point since 1939. Things are looking as bleak to many Americans right now as they did to Americans during the Great Depression. The number of people filing for unemployment has reached record numbers, and while the amount of foreclosures in the nation seems to have slowed for the time being, joblessness and lack of confidence in the future is wreaking havoc on the stock market and on retail industries. People who have invested money in the stock market are losing money hand over fist right now and consulting debt consolidation firms left right and centre.
However, there is a bright side to this downturn in America's economy. For people who have anything left to invest, it is an opportunity of a lifetime to invest what they have wisely. The state of the economy has opened the eyes of a lot of people in this generation to save more wisely and invest more wisely. It is also giving people an opportunity to buy up stocks that are selling for pennies on the dollar. The key is to ride out the storm right now. If we can weather the storm right now and keep from sinking in today's financial world, we will come through stronger than ever. It's like the old saying goes; "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger". The same rings true for the state of the financial world today. For those of us who are just barely holding on, if we can just hold on a little longer, we will be okay. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and Americans are feeling that hope as a plan of action is put into place to help our economy recover, and for Americans to once again feel the confidence which has made us so strong in the first place.
