CD Duplication is also known as optical disc authoring (such as CD and DVD authoring). Disc Duplication is the process of copying/imaging your media (such as Audio CD, DVD Video, and almost any files) onto a high quality CD or DVD. With no loss of data, the final product will be consistent with your original. This is an excellent and cost effective way to present electronic information to a large audience.

Another popular method is CD Replication, or Compact disc manufacturing. This is the process by which commercial discs are replicated in mass quantities using a glass master created from the source recording.

Advantages of Duplication compared to Replication:
* No need to hold lots of stock (thousands of disc's at once).
* Easy and inexpensive to change the master disc.
* Faster turn around time.
* The setup fees are almost non-existent, as there's no need to set up an expensive glass master (as with replication).
* You can get full color thermal prints, which can even look better than screen prints.
* No minimum quantity for orders. It doesn't matter if you have an order for 10 CDs or 1000.

Disadvantages of Duplication compared to Replication:
* The cost per unit may be slightly higher on orders over 2000 discs.

The process
1. Decide the disc format (CD or DVD) and Duplication or Replication.
2. Create master disc.
3. Decide and proof the print work for the discs, and cover artwork.
4. Image the master disc onto the duplicated or replicated discs.
5. Printing of CDs and/or DVDs artwork.
6. Printing of cover artwork.
7. Quality inspections - testing of the discs, and print work.
8. Packaging - to suit requirements. the duplication company will assemble the discs, artwork, cases and prepare for shipping or pickup.
